Module Four | The Design Challenge

Module Four is all about two big ideas that really matter for business.

The first is that a successful business needs to solve a need or want people actually have. It’s really fun to come up with cool ideas for a business - and no doubt your students have already - but hold them back. Ask them to work first on really understanding and defining the opportunity or challenge in front of them before they unleash their creativity.

The second big idea is that you have to test an idea with people before you can tell if you are close to meeting their needs. It is super-tempting to have a great idea and rush out and start making it - and it’s your job as the educator to press pause. Before your students invest heart and soul in an idea, make sure they prototype and test it - probably many times - and are prepared to iterate and change their idea as a result. Getting feedback and making changes isn’t easy - the kids will really need to build their resilience muscles - but this process makes getting your product market-ready without wasting a whole lot of time and money much more likely.
